Why we built Foonts
Getting a font ready for the web shouldn't require installing software, creating an account, or uploading files you may not have the rights to send to a stranger's server. Foonts exists to make that one small step — TTF or OTF in, WOFF and WOFF2 out — fast, free, and private.
How it works
Foonts runs entirely in your browser. When you drop in a font file, JavaScript reads its table directory directly, repackages it into the WOFF and WOFF2 container formats, and compresses it using your browser's own compression engine — no font data is ever uploaded to a server. The live preview works the same way, rendering your actual glyphs locally using the browser's Font Loading API.
What we believe
- Privacy by default. If a tool doesn't need to see your files, it shouldn't ask for them.
- No unnecessary friction. No sign-up, no install, no watermarks.
- Respect for font licensing. Converting a file's format doesn't change who owns it — see our Terms of Service for more.
Who's behind Foonts
Foonts is an independent, small side project built and maintained by a team that cares about type and about the web loading fast. We keep the lights on through unobtrusive advertising and the occasional affiliate link — never by selling your data, because we don't collect any.
